tomatoes sliced freeze dried tomatoesHard to believe, but it's harvest time once again. This is actually one of our favorite times of the year. The heat is starting to break, the garden is going crazy with a finale of more vegetables than we can eat in a week, and we get to share that bounty with friends and neighbors. We also get to freeze dry lots of beautiful food for use in the winter months and beyond. If you follow our blog, you already know there are few limits to what you can freeze dry. We recommend you freeze dry all of your extra garden produce - even the vegetables that are traditionally enjoyed fresh out of the dirt. Freeze dried vegetables make great snacks - just sprinkle a little sea salt or Old Bay Seasoning and eat them instead of chips or other treats. Or, think about adding them into you soups and stew recipes this winter. You'll be so glad you're using items from your garden. Whatever you're freeze drying, just slice or cube it, place it in a layer on the freeze dryer trays, and run the cycle. When it's done, place the food in an airtight container such as a Mylar bags or a canning jar. We would love to see how you're using your Harvest Right freeze dryer to preserve your garden harvest.
