This video shows how to interchange pigtails between different shelving units to ensure compatibility. The main purpose is to show how to switch the wiring from a seven-tray shelving unit to a four-tray one when the connectors do not match.
Tools needed:
- Screwdriver
- Camera or phone for taking pictures
- Wire cutters or scissors
- Replacement pigtail
Steps
- Prepare the unit: Begin by unscrewing the case of the shelving unit and remove it to expose the wiring. It’s recommended to take a photo for reference before proceeding.
- Disconnect the wires: Cut the zip tie holding the wires together and unplug all the connections from the block.
- Remove the pigtail: Press down on the plus sign where the wires are connected to release them. Use a screwdriver if they are difficult to remove.
- Swap the pigtail: Once the original pigtail is removed, take the pigtail from the other unit and connect it to the block in the same configuration as the original.
- Reassemble and check: After swapping, refer back to the photo taken earlier to ensure all wires are correctly placed. Once confirmed, reassemble the case and the unit should be ready to use.
