Packaging Up Your Freeze Dryer

Video link: https://youtu.be/MmQ-GWCHMSg

This video serves as a guide to securely packaging your freeze dryer before sending it back to Harvest Right for repairs or other service needs.

Tools needed:

  • Pallet (acquired independently)
  • Return kit supplied by Harvest Right (includes a bag, corner protectors, foam pieces, straps and buckles, a box with a lid)
  • Tape
  • Scissors (optional, for cutting straps)
  • Pliers or a similar tool for tightening straps (optional)

Steps

  1. Prepare the freeze dryer: Remove and leave at home the door pad (if you have one), the power cord, trays, and any other accessories.
  2. Package the vacuum pump (if necessary): If you are also sending back your vacuum pump, use the box provided by Harvest Right. Place the vacuum hose inside the freeze dryer chamber for easy travel.
  3. Cover the freeze dryer: Use the bag provided in the return kit to cover the freeze dryer.
  4. Secure the freeze dryer to the pallet: With the help of a friend, lift the freeze dryer onto the pallet. Use the corner protectors and foam pieces for protection. Secure the freeze dryer with straps and buckles, ensuring it is tight and secure.
  5. Strapping technique: Feed the strap through the bottom of the buckle, then through the middle slot. Pull tight to secure, using your body weight or a tool for leverage if necessary.
  6. Boxing: Place the box over the strapped freeze dryer, and assemble the lid by tucking in the corners.
  7. Final strapping: Use the remaining straps and buckles to secure the box to the pallet.
  8. Packing the vacuum pump (if applicable): If instructed to return the vacuum pump, place the foam pads as directed in the box, set the pump inside, and seal the box with tape. Place this box on top of the freeze dryer box and secure with straps.
  9. Label and pickup: Once packaged, contact customer support or your technician to receive a return label via email. Affix the label to the pallet and schedule a FedEx pickup.
  10. Call for confirmation: After packaging, call Harvest Right to confirm the pickup and complete any additional steps.
