My shelving unit is not heating up anymore; during my last batch the shelving unit got very hot and burned my food.

How to Reset the Snap Disk (Overload Switch) on Your Shelving Unit

It sounds like your shelving unit may have overheated during your last batch, which can trip the overload switch (also called a snap disk). This safety device automatically shuts off power to the heating element if the temperature gets too high.

Follow these steps to check and reset the snap disk:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Turn Off and Unplug
    • Make sure your freeze dryer is turned off and unplugged from the power source for safety.
  2. Find the Snap Disk
    • The snap disk is a small, round device with a button on top. It’s usually located on the back of the shelving unit, near the heating element.
    • You may need to remove the back cover of the shelving unit. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws in each corner of the back plate.
  3. Reset the Snap Disk
    • Press the button on top of the snap disk firmly to reset it.
  4. Reassemble and Plug In
    • Reattach the back cover and secure it with the screws.
    • Plug your freeze dryer back in and turn it on.
  5. Test the Heat
    • Start your freeze dryer and check if the shelves are heating up as they should.
