What should I do if the heater fails in the middle of a freeze-drying batch?

If your freeze dryer experienced a mid-batch heater failure, please follow these steps:

  1. Cancel the Batch: Click 'cancel' on your screen to cancel the current batch.
  2. Remove the Food: Take the food out of your freeze dryer and place it in your freezer to prevent spoilage.
  3. Test the Heaters: Navigate to the functional testing screen by clicking the green leaf logo in the top left corner of the main home screen. Once there, click the heat button and watch the tray temperature reading in the top left corner of your screen.
  4. Observe Tray Temperature: If the tray temperature number is going up and reaches around 90 degrees, and the shelves start to feel warm, the heating system is likely functioning correctly. If the shelves are warming up, you can prepare for your next batch.
  5. Intermittent Heat Relay: If the heater failure occurs again during the next batch, it may indicate an intermittent functioning heat relay. In this case, the heater relay may be starting to fail. Please reach out to our customer support team for further assistance.

If the shelves do not start to feel warm during the heater test, please upload your log files for further assistance from a Harvest Right technician. If you need help accessing or uploading the log files, please let us know, and we can provide additional instructions.
