My freeze dryer says it’s not detecting heat

What to Do If Your Freeze Dryer Is Not Detecting Heat

If your freeze dryer is showing a “Not Detecting Heat” error, follow these steps to find and fix the issue:

Step 1: Pause Your Batch

  • If you’re in the middle of a batch, remove your food and place it in your freezer to keep it safe.
  • Cancel the current batch on your freeze dryer.

Step 2: Test the Heaters

  • On your freeze dryer’s main home screen, tap the green leaf logo in the top left corner to open the functional testing screen.
  • Turn on the toggle labeled “Heater.”

Step 3: Watch the Tray Temperature

  • Look at the tray temperature reading on the screen.

Step 4: Is the Tray Temperature Going Up?

  • If yes:
    • Wait until the tray temperature reaches about 90°F. At this point, the shelves should start to feel warm.
    • Gently touch the shelves to check if they’re warming up.
      • If the shelves feel warm:

Your shelving unit is heating up as it should! You can start your next batch.

        • If you get a “Mid Batch Heater Failure” error on your next batch, your heater relay may be starting to fail. In this case, a Harvest Right support technician may need to help you reconfigure your relay board or arrange a repair.
        • If your food isn’t drying or the heat isn’t turning on during batches, it could be a vacuum issue. The vacuum pressure (mTorr) must be low enough for the heat to activate.
      • If the shelves do NOT feel warm:

This may be a deeper issue. Please contact Harvest Right support at 801-386-8960 or submit a support ticket.

  • If no (the tray temperature is not going up):
    • Watch this video to check the reset heat button on the back of your shelf:
    • Press the reset heat button, then test the heat again.

Step 5: After Pressing the Reset Button

  • Did the shelves heat up?
    • If yes:

      Great! The problem is resolved.

    • If no:

Let’s check the wiring on the back of your shelf. Sometimes a wire just needs to be reconnected.

Step 6: Check the Shelf Wiring

  • Make sure the heat is turned off on your functional testing screen.
  • Watch this video to see how to check the wiring on the back of the shelf:
  • Plug in any disconnected wires, then re-test the heat.

Step 7: After Checking the Wiring

  • Did the shelves heat up?
    • If yes:

      Great! The problem is resolved.

    • If no:

It sounds like all wires are connected and the shelving unit did not need to be reset. This is likely a deeper issue that needs technical support.
