How should I clean my pump?

Cleaning your vacuum pump is an essential part of maintaining your Harvest Right freeze dryer. The cleaning process will vary depending on the type of pump you have. Here are general guidelines for cleaning the different types of pumps:

For Standard Oil Pumps:

  1. Change the Oil: Every 5 batches, drain the used oil from the pump. Filter the oil and reuse or replace it with fresh, clean vacuum pump oil.
  2. Filter the Oil: If you choose to filter the oil instead of replacing it, use the Harvest Right oil filter to remove moisture and contaminants.
  3. Wipe Exterior: Clean the exterior of the pump with a cloth to remove any oil residue or dust.

For Premier Oil Pumps:

  1. Change or Filter the Oil: Change or filter the oil every 15-20 batches, or if the oil appears cloudy.
  2. Clean the Demister: If you have an oil leak or notice oil mist, clean the demister. You can watch a video on how to clean the demister:
  1. Check for Leaks: If there's an oil leak, it may be coming from the demister or the reservoir. Clean or replace these parts as needed.

For Oil-Free Pumps:

  1. Perform a Dry Flush: Conduct a dry flush to remove any water that has been pulled into the pump during the freeze-drying process. A video guide for performing a dry flush:
  1. Wipe Exterior: Clean the exterior of the pump with a cloth to keep it free of dust and debris.

For all pumps, ensure that you are working in a well-ventilated area and that the pump is turned off and unplugged before performing any maintenance. Always refer to your specific pump's manual for detailed instructions, as maintenance procedures can vary. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, please let us know.
