How to Check If Your Food Is Completely Dry
Making sure your food is fully freeze-dried is important for safe storage and the best taste. Here’s how you can easily check for dryness:
Step-by-Step: Checking for Dryness
- Wait for “Process Complete”
When your freeze dryer displays “Process Complete,” it’s time to check your food.
- Choose the Largest Piece
On each tray, find the largest or thickest piece of food.
- Break It in Half
Break this piece in half and place it on your tongue.
- If it feels dry and you don’t see or feel any ice crystals, your food is ready.
- If you notice any moisture or ice in the center, it needs more drying time.
- For Liquids
Check the center of the tray. Make sure it’s completely dry and not sticky or wet.
What to Do If Food Isn’t Dry
- If you find any pieces that are still wet or not fully dry, simply put the trays back into your freeze dryer.
- Close the door and drain valve, then select the “More Dry Time” option on the Process Complete screen to continue drying.
Checking the largest piece helps ensure all your food is ready for storage. If you have any questions, our Customer Support team is happy to help!
