Where to Put Your Harvest Right Freeze Dryer

Choosing the right location for your freeze dryer affects how well it performs, how convenient it is to use, and how long the machine lasts. Here's what to know.

**Best Locations for a Home Freeze Dryer**

Harvest Right freeze dryers work well in:

- Kitchen or utility rooms

- Laundry rooms

- Spare bedrooms

- Basements

- Garages (with temperature considerations — see below)

The most important requirements are a stable, level surface, adequate ventilation, access to the correct power outlet, and room for the drain hose.

**What Temperature Should the Room Be?**

Harvest Right freeze dryers perform best between 45–75°F. They can safely operate in temperatures ranging from 35–90°F, but hot environments significantly extend freeze dry times because the machine works harder to maintain the low temperatures required for sublimation.

Operating above 105°F is not recommended. In warmer environments, placing a small fan near the vacuum pump can improve performance and extend pump life. A batch that might finish in 24 hours at 75°F could take over 40 hours at higher ambient temperatures.

**Does a Freeze Dryer Need Ventilation?**

Yes. Side vents on the unit must remain unobstructed to allow proper airflow around the pump, electronics, and refrigeration system. Blocking these vents can cause overheating and performance issues.

**How Loud Is a Freeze Dryer?**

Freeze dryers produce a hum similar to a dishwasher or other common household appliances. Many owners run their machine overnight without issue.

**What Power Outlet Does a Freeze Dryer Need?**

Small, medium, and large models use a standard 110-volt outlet with a dedicated 15-amp circuit. The X-Large model requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit.
