It’s time to start planning those summer vacations, and one of the best ways to relax and enjoy an adventure is with the good old American Road Trip. Whether you’re in a fancy RV, a retro pop-up camper or you’ve just got a car, a hammock and a dream, packing for road trips requires a careful balance of comfort and practicality.

Packing your own food is an important part of road tripping.freeze dried eggs in a bag in a blue backpack You won’t want to stop for every meal, but it can be difficult to find room to stash snacks and staples. Unless you have a Harvest Right freeze dryer, that is. Freeze drying your own meals and snacks is such a game changer for road trips and vacations. You’ll be able to pack all of your favorite foods and you’ll be able to fit an entire summer’s worth of chow into a small space (plus, it will weigh next to nothing). You’ll also be able to pack healthy food, which is an important part of feeling good and staying fit, even if you loosen up a little on vacation.

When you can pack your own freeze-dried food, you’ll avoid expensive restaurants, convenience stores and inflated prices at tourist destinations. And, you just may be surprised at how much further your vacation dollars will go.

Remember you can freeze dry entire entrees such as lasagna and casseroles, meats such as turkey and ham for sandwiches, fruits and vegetable chips for snacks, eggs for breakfast and much more.

We’d love to see your vacation photos – send us those freeze-dried food shots from your far-flung summer road trips.

We just returned from a road trip to Nauvoo, Illinois (from Utah) and used our freeze-dried foods with a Saratoga Jack thermal cooker. We LOVED it! Only ate out 3 times in a whole week. We were able to prepare our dinner in the morning while we were packing up our hotel room by using our one-burner butane stove. Bring the water to a boil, add the freeze dried meal, boil for 2 minutes and then put in the cooker. When we got to the next hotel later that day, dinner was already waiting for us.
