Harvest Right’s website was recently named as one of the ‘Best 250 Prepper Websites’ by Happy To Survive, a homesteading and prepping resource. Here’s their review:

“Harvest Right. Ok here is the review for this awesome website. 4 Words:  FREEZE DRY AT HOME.  Amazing!  Ok…that is 5 words. This is a great website with lovely products, tips, and videos. Our team really enjoyed the freeze dry at home concept.”

We’re honored to be on this list because we do encourage our community to prepare for disasters and other situations that can cause food supply chain outages or shortages. A home freeze dryer allows you to build a food storage strategy more cost effectively than any other method of food preservation. In fact, it costs about 1/3 less of the price of buying off-the-shelf freeze-dried food (that’s nearly a 70% savings!) Building a long-term plan is so easy with a home freeze dryer – your part of the work is reduced to chopping, pushing a few buttons and packaging up your nutritious, tasty freeze dried goodies.

Thanks to Happy to Survive for sharing the new prepping possibilities with their readers. And, if you haven’t already, join our Facebook page to keep up with real-world tips from the freeze drying and prepping communities.

I just wanted to say that I am pleased with my new freeze dryer, and have been experimenting a lot. One thing I had not heard about was freeze drying nuts. I asked and no one seemed to be able to answer, so I tried it. Pecans from my tree came out fantastic, I am trying sugar coated with spice next, but the plain ones did great, almost like lightly toasting them.

Nuts with water in them freeze dry well, but we haven’t tried all the varieties of nuts. We know that almonds do work well. Excited to hear how your experiments go.

Your estimation of savings in this article is confusing, the way it is stated. Are you saying that you are saving a percentage or paying a percentage?

Thanks for pointing this out, Lita. We’ve made a correction that hopefully clarifies the savings, which is indeed nearly 70% off the cost of off-the-shelf freeze dried food.

An overwhelming majority of our customers absolutely LOVE their freeze dryer. The only unfavorable issues are that sometimes people realize they need to do some regular maintenance on their vacuum pump. Just like a car needs some scheduled maintenance if you use it regularly, your freeze dryer needs maintenance on the vacuum pump to run at optimal performance levels. You can find reviews all over the the internet — some great ones are on Our Best Bites and The Survival Blog.

Okay, I’m curious. There is a really nice lady on one of the blogs I follow that says she freeze dry’s dawn dish soap. I would think it would cause an awful mess, but she says it freeze dries really well.

Can you confirm this? I’d hate to ruin my machine, but I have to admit that I love the idea of powdered dawn dish soap. lol

We have not tried it personally, but we know others have tried it and had success. It should be fine just removing the water out of it. We know people have done it for camping supplies, etc.
