THERE’S NOTHING OLD FASHIONED ABOUT OATMEAL!

We wanted to share some great ways to bring breakfast back into focus. Many of us rush around in the morning, and if we do grab breakfast, it is a cup of coffee and a bar, in the car, on the way to work or school. Even worse, many of us sit in long take out lines, waiting on Ronald or the King to cook and serve our meal.

Enter the humble oat groat. With so many forms of preparation, this grain has been around for many centuries, and is eaten raw as muesli, cooked into porridge, made into breads, cookies, and cakes, and even added to crumbles that top your favorite cobblers and crisps.

Oatmeal, in its purest forms, is nutritious and delicious, but who has time to cook oats? Irish oats, also knows as stone-cut or pinhead oats, have a texture that is fun to eat. However, these oats are also the roughest cut, so take the longest to cook. If you are trying to avoid processed foods, then Irish oats are the way to go. These are simply broken grains. The Scots, who first used oats to feed humans, used to soak the grains overnight in salted water, then boil quickly in the morning to thicken them.

I’d like to do this with oats and also with quinoa.
Can you tell me the recommended Freeze /Dry times for these two foods?

I would recommend the default settings, however, if you plan to use them for long term storage, there is nothing wrong with using a 12/12 cycle. I use it for anything besides candy. 🙂
